It’s been a long time since Rakim blazed the mic manifesting deft rhyme skills, performing with a menacing presence. On September 30th, Rakim brings the technique with Kid Capri to the 9:30 Club for the final date of what is gearing to be a sold-out US tour. This victory lap is a prelude to the resurgence of Rakim’s career, heralded by a Lifetime Achievement Award at VH1’s 2006 Hip Hop Honors, airing next month, and the R’s new album which drops next year. While Rakim’s penchant for perfectionism has kept him and his music away from the stage, the pressure of discipline and time has recast this diamond in light. Be there for the shine.
